Benefits of Analytics and Live Tracking

  • Analytics software, the tools they provide and the real time tracking allow website editors to tune the site with a customer centric approach by providing you with valuable data about your visitors
  • The success of a website largely depends on the overall user experience of visitors to the site. Analytics software helps business and website owners understand whatever needs to be addressed in terms of improving and enhancing the user experience of their website
  • In the long term, analytics can provide the opportunity for increased visitor traffic to the site, increased amount of returning visitors as well as hopefully generating sales and providing increased  web conversion rates

Evidently the metrics provided by the analytics software packages will vary depending on the nature and purpose of the given website. Some benefits of analytics software include:

  • If your site is there to solely give content and information then the live tracking code can be used to record how far users went in order to attain the information they desired
  • If your site is for e commerce purposes then the reporting tool can be used to determine the average amount of time that it took for users to close a sale, this will also help determine the web conversion rates and bounce rates
  • Being able to segment your market
  • Personalise the content to the specific segments
  • Collaborative filtering, allowing you to uncover trends and patterns
  • The reporting tools combined with the status report provides solid information that can be included in any management report
  • Providing the means to test and investigate if you are achieving your business goals that are associated with running a website
    • For example, Google Analytics comes with a feature that allows you to set up goals and funnels which in turns allows you to monitor whether or not the goals you had previously determined to coincide with your website are being seen through. E.g. are visitors to the site signing up for the newsletter? Or are visitors clicking on the call to action buttons?

And because Google Analytics is free and many other Web analytics programmes offer free and trial versions of their packages there is an opportunity cost to not implementing their use and features.
